ATI Radeon 9550 256MB AGP 8x

get the 3.2e i believe with some newer bioses it has a unlockable multiplier.
^ Video card
Get a WD or a Seagate hard drive, SATA is only like $3 more on a WD and for the preformace increase you get $3 is worth it
Get a EMU 0404 Audio card their much better than Audigys

If your going to be ripping DVD's get a bigger hard drive, i went thru a 160GB in a week

Look at the guide I did here.

Go to the the mid range and high end system section. Strongly consider an Athlon64 system, and use the extra money to get a better card.

The Radeon 9550 card is really not an attractive buy. Get at least a 9600XT card or higher if you can afford it.

money is somwhat of an issue until 2 weeks when i get paid again.. but i will defiently look into a better vid card. The 9550 was a card i already have in another syatem atm. It was the reason why i was just going to use that but if there is a big performance change i will look into something better.

There is a big performance change going with a 9600xt or higher. I guess it depends on if you play newer games.

I have read about some of the heat issues any other P4 chips with about the same clock speed that generate less heat?

2.8C or 3.0C, they use the Northwood core and run a bit cooler. One of my machines uses a 2.8C Northwood and the other uses a 3.0E Prescott. For raw CPU the Prescott doesn't feel much faster but it's much hotter! These days I would go A64. P4 has become oldschool in a bad way.
