Well first off my HTPC motherboard died for some reason (POS board that I got for free), but also took out my two tuner cards ($$$$) so im low on funds.

I am thinking about giving my biostar a880g+ to the HTPC and upgrading.

I was previously running my x2 560 as a quad core in the biostar even with overclocking it was rock solid (even though its not 4+1 phase). I originally thought about buying another biostar a880g+ since it had been so good for me but am3+ is out so it seems silly to buy am3.

Would this board allow me to unlock? Or do you guys think that the mobo might not handle the load and potentially die/catch fire? If not this board then what would you recommend, it can be atx or micro atx.

The GA-880GMA-USB3 will make a fine HTPC board. This board is an Ultra Durable 3 board so it should work just fine. It supports 6 core and 140watt cpus.

You can unlock the cores in the BIOS under Advanced BIOS Features - Core Unlock.
