Ideas for replacing EA3500?

Hey all,
I'm frustrated with the performance of my current Linksys EA3500(N750). I bought it to replace an old workhorse, WRT54g. But the signal strength of the 3500 turned out to be a downgrade.

My wireless devices on the far side of my house (about 80feet away, through several brick walls) have epic sucky strength. Things like my kindle fire can only connect if I'm on almost in the same room.

I've only ever dealt with Linksys products, but it seems like everyone frowns upon them nowa' days. So I'm here asking for some suggestions in the $80-150 range, willing to try different brands. I just need something with better signal strength than my current EA3500. Not going to use this network to game. I will have 5 or so devices connected. Again, just need dependable signal strength

Thanks!

Keep the Linksys, switch it to 5ghz only, get a UniFi AP for whole-house 2.4ghz coverage.
