So.... my (soon to be) 7yr old is having his kid's birthday party Indiana Jones themed. He would really like some sort of "obstacle" course. Specifically he asked for a part where when they stepped down a dart would shoot at them LOL!

Anyways, any suggestions as to anything cool we could do to make the party "Indiana Jones" themed?

Haha, that's going to be one happy seven year old. Good luck, I have no clue. :)

For the dart thing, a cheap blowgun would work. They make blunt-tipped darts you can shoot from them.

You can do the boulder thing with one of those huge exercise balls.

I thought of the Huge Exercise balls too, but those are $$ and lord only know how to rig it up to "roll after them"

I think, to paraphrase another Harrison Ford character, my kid has some serious delusions of grandeur

Put kid in lead lined refrigerator and then detonate a nuclear missile. All the other kids will be blown away ;)

awesome.

also, in lieu of a clown, you could hire some dude to dress up as Moloram and have him remove the hearts of the attendees.

There was one of Japanese game shows that had a party I think called Boulder Dash, where they roll big ass foam boulders down a hill and you're supposed to climb up to the top avoiding them.

You should do that.

Though maybe that's a bad idea with the way everything is so pussified. Some kid might fall and cry and the parents sue you.

Well first, you have to start the rumor mill at the school. Tell them the party will be great... nay, the best party they have ever been to. Tell them that all of the parties that they have ever been to are a precursor to this extravaganza. Get them good and excited, ya know.

Then, send out ?teaser? invitations, telling them of endless buffets of ice cream and all the cake they can eat. Tell them you are going to have carnival rides and video games as far as the eye can see.

Then, when the day finally arrives, and all the kids show up all amped for an Indiana Jones bash? have an 80 year old man standing next to a cardboard cutout of an alien saying ?HAPPY BIRTHDAY?. Then tell them all they owe you $10.

Depend on what you have at your dispose, I'm certain they make those giant inflatable obstacle courses with a jungle theme. Probably ~$1k for a day, though. You could do that and have all the other kids shoot them with nerf guns as they go through.

You're right. I could just pop for a few million for Ford, LaBeef and Speilbergo to show up too!

you might be able to build a boulder with balsa wood dowels and paper mache. oooo or maybe you could paper mache a big balloon! like a huge one.
you could make a pit of snakes with a bunch of rubber snakes and a kiddie blow up pool. fill it with water and make them crawl through it with the dart guns firing over their heads :)
if you have a swing set you could set up a rope to swing from one "cliff" to another or make them swing onto a jeep with a russian, sword weilding psychic psyco-chick (made of cardboard and paint).

ps - please invite me to this party!

Get a roundish ice cream cake. Decorate the top look like the top of a monkey's skull with pinkish icing for the brain. My wife does cake decorating. Not hard to pull off as much as it is time-consuming.

Other ideas:
- Get a scimitar and red robes and re-enact the sword fight from Raiders.
- Lots of cheap rubber snakes. Possibly in a big bucket and do bobbing for apples (treasure?) in it.
- If you have a swimming pool, inflatable alligator toys
- Possible game? Get a bunch of different looking cups and label a bunch of different prizes on the bottom of the cups. One cup could have the big prize. Have the kids pick a cup up, dip it in some water and drink to where everyone can see the prize listed on the bottom of the cup. You can then tell the kid if he chose wisely or not.

combining your idea and blackdogdeek's I was thinking to have a "Temple Raid" course. Have several obstacles they had to make it through, the last being other kids with the ner dart guns (hell I can buy them and he can keep them for part of his present too) flanking their path to the idol at the end. Make it through the guantlet to the idol without getting hit and you get a prize.

I like the "Choose Wisely" one you described too!

Keep em coming!!! Man my wife has a lot of work to do!!! :)

The Nerf Maverick might be a better choice if the kid doing the idol dash is to have any chance at getting to it. Plus for that price he can get several Mavericks, and maybe let the guests each take one home. That Amazon.Com price for the Maverick is a bit high, I usually see them at B&M stores for $8.00 or $9.00, and recently a local store had a deal where you could buy two and get a third free.

For the monkey brains i don't know how you would do it as a cake but it would make a nice side dish. Red jello thats been stirred around after its been allowed to set.

Get some cardboard to make a wall in the back yard. Buy a really big ball, paint it (non-toxic) to make it look like a rock. Roll kids over with ball.

Also, some cowboy/indy hats for your kid. No idea how much they cost in bulk, but I've seen nice ones for $50-ish. Partly to make your kid cooler, partly cause of the cost.
