Hi, I have been looking around to build a computer system for ~$200. I already has some old parts, so the parts that counts towards the $200 are: Hard Drive, Mobo, Mid Tower Case (w/o PSU, already has one), video card and some memory.

Please help me, thanks

EDIT: I would need a CPU too, don't if I want to go AMD or Intel but I want to stick at around ~800 mhz

Here are some suggestions...

Harddrive: Maxtor 5400RPM ($50)
Motherboard: ECS K7S5A ($60)
Case: Enlight 7237 ($50)
Video: Radeon 7500 ($60)
Memory: 256MB of PC133/PC2100 (~$50)

That's closer to $300, but well worth it for the equipment you will get.

It's going to be almost impossilbe to get all the new parts you need, HD, Motherboard, Case, Memory, CPU, and Video Card for anywhere near $200. For about $400 you might be able to do it, but $200 is just unrealisitc IMHO. :( Do you have any flex in your budget?

If your budget is really tight, you could go with a cheap motherboard with onboard video, such as the Biostar M7VKQ and a Duron 900. You can get both for around $85 dollars at Multiwave. Their generic RAM is cheap too, and I've never had any problems with it. It's still going to be tough to get under your budget though.

Look for a really cheap case at a local PC shop. You can get some cheap cases online, but then you also have to pay ~$15 SH.

for that low of a budget, you're better of checking the For Sale/Trade forum. You might be able to trade some of your old junk for parts you need, and get cheaper prices...

I think you could pull off a nice usable system (over 1 Ghz) for ~$300
I've done it for around $300 before several times.. so if you can scrounge up just a bit more $ you should be set.

Also- what do you want this system for?
Word processing? Games? Internet?

I didnt' see a price listed for that 20 GB hard drive, but I'm pretty sure you can get a 40 GB for only a little more money. I think it would be well worth it, even if you don't need the space right now.

You can try one of the sites that list parts and accessories for Surplus Computers. I"ve used this site before when I was looking for old parts and they were fine. Here is another site that I used recently of a guy who has a business on Ebay. He has tons of parts and has treated me right on several purchases. You may want't to email him if you don't see what you want on his page. Depending on what kind of system you want I believe you can do it for $200.

Since you're considering a PC in the "ultimate-suck" price range, buy something USED but in good condition from a local PC shop or eBay.
