My system today:
A7v TBird 750 128MB PC-133
SB Live Platinum
Voodoo3-3500
plus all the other usual stuff

Question:
What is the best upgrade for my system given that I am looking for ease of installation and a good increase in frame rates and picture quality? Main games are Unreal and Falcon 4.0. I also use this computer for Quicken, Quickbooks, Surfing, Word, Excel, etc. TV-Out is also something I plan to utilize (which is why I got the V3-3500 to begin with), but it's not a "deal breaker".

Thanks for your opinions:confused:

It all depends on how much you want to spend. If the most demanding game you play is unreal, theres not much better than a v3 3500.

GeForce2MX cards give great performance for the price - I picked up my Winfast GeForce2MX (with TV-out) for just under $150, and it supports Twinview (but I have yet to use it)... the Hercules MX also looks great with the higher-speed memory (183MHz vs. 166MHz), but it costs around the same without TV-out.

If you've got cash to burn, GeForce2 GTS cards are good - Hercules Prophet 2 GTS has TV-out and DVI, I think, plus blue heatsinks on the memory chips... V4 4500 is the same speed as a V3 3000, so I'd avoid that. V5 5000 is a little faster, and same people say it has better image quality than a GeForce-based card. However, it's slower, while the price is about the same as a GeForce2 GTS...

Your V3 isn't _that_ slow, and apparently 3dfx cards are best for Unreal-based games (from what I hear). You might want to wait a couple of months until the NVIDIA and 3dfx spring refreshes... that's when I plan on (possibly) upgrading.

Just my $0.02...

I would recommend the ATI Radeon 32DDR. You can pick it up at BestBuy for $199 minus a $50 rebate. I was going to get one of the GeForce 2 MX cards, but with the Radeon only a little more I choose that. It image quality blows away the MX. Speed is very close at everything except 32bit at 1024 and higher, where the Radeon moves ahead. Also, they are coming out with a All in Wonder version which you may want to look at. I am running it in a A7V with Duron 700@900 and it runs great.
