I'm going to be upgrading my monitor from my old 1280x1024

Since the card has 32 render output units should I get 1080p? Its not a high performance card so I'm wondering if the difference between like 900p and 1080p will be useable (ie alloe for higher settings and framerates) or if the 32 rou's make that redundant.

I wouldn't go any lower than 1080p myself. The 6850 can game at this level fine for gaming with a few reduced settings in some games.

If you get a monitor with decent scaling you don't need to game at the native resolution.

When I had a 6850 I usually gamed at 14x9 or 16x10 on my 1900x1200 Dell 24", depending on the game.

I despise non native resolutions

Your Dell is what like a $700 monitor?

Ill be getting one of the $150 asus 1080p's of newegg... probably not as good at scaling.

There's no reason to buy anything other than a 1080p monitor at this point. You'll save $20 going with something smaller and regret it instantly when you realize how much screen real estate you gave up.

Just turn down settings if you don't want to lower the resolution.

I play everything at 1080p with mine. IMHO even 1080p with low settings is usually easier on the eyes then a lower resolution with high settings. I just can't stand the fuzziness of non-native resolution. Regardless, the 6850 should handle the majority of games at 1080p with medium/high settings.
