So you have sites like match.com or eharmony that charge a pretty hefty fee. Here's how the site works.

On eHarmony, Matt in Oakland likes Jenn in San Francisco, Jenn Likes Matt back. They're supposed to pay the fee to communicate, but they can read each other's bio's or whatever.

Matt and Jenn both go to website x

Matt creates a user with an email address. He puts in the name of the person and the city and copies/pastes bio information from the person he is compatible with. She does the same. It finds a probably match. They pay $2 or something for contact info...

Me and some friends were just throwing around ideas and came up with this. Any chance it would work?

People desperate enough to join a serious online dating site are probably more then willing to pay the monthly fee to get some action...

basically, though maybe it could be ad-supported.

We didn't really consider how desperate these people are. Perhaps they are perfectly willing to pay the prices. In fact, they must be or they would probably charge less. Nevermind I guess.

Meh...

More than likely a person willing to pay $2 to a small-time company would probably also just pay the $25 or $50 to a more legitimate company just so they don't have to deal with the hassle of not getting what they needed.

The hardest part of e-commerce is getting the person to pull their credit card out of their wallet-- and typically its just as difficult to get someone to whip it out for $2 as it is for $25.
