idea for a car radio...

Does any company make a car radio with a USB port built in, thus being able to plug a flash drive directly in and have it play MP3s straight off that. Sorry for my incompetence if this has been done. If it has been done, company + model would be great. Thanks!

Yes you can, But they are limited in size you can use, usually 2GB. My new jvc does this and works great. You are better off getting an ipod with a direct controller through the back behind it.

Not sure about USB, but the Infiniti G35 has a similar feature with compact flash SSM.

EDIT: Mine referring to stock radios not aftermarket.

My JVC does both. The IPOD adapter connects to the back and is controlled from the stereo head, while a USB socket in front allows direct connection of USB devices. I'm not sure what the limitation in flash size is, though.

😀
