Their are two connections on my motherboard - one says Eide and IDE. Could I just connect a slave dvdrw and primary hdd on the IDE spot?

which motherboard do you have? Yeah you can connect the dvdrw and hdd on the ide port, but it not recommended.

Both ports will work just fine. It's better to have the hard drive and DVD drive on seperate connectors. EIDE and IDE are are one and the same, most likely they are labled differantly because one connector is part of the chipset, and the other is a seperate controller chip. Which motherboard do you have?

I have the Asus P5W DH Deluxe... so I should connect the hdd to one and dvdrw to the other?

Will their be much of a performance hit if I just use 1 ide since the other one is hard to get to?

there may be a performance hit. Just keep them seperate...you only need to reach for that connection once, you'll enjoy the benefits for the life of your computer 😉

I guess im going to leave it how it is... The second ide switch is like 2 feet away from the dvd rw drive. All my cables dont reach.

🙂
