Then you either do not have the drive jumpered correctly for master/single or you do not have it set to auto detect in the bios. Most cables are indexed so you can only insert them one way, but if it's an older style cable, it may be plugged in wrong. Check those things. It should identify the drive when it posts. If you are using one hard drive and one cdrom, you can jumper both as master, put the HD on it's own cable, on IDE port one and the CDrom on IDE port 2 on it's own cable.
