IDE to SATA adaptor

I was looking to buy a new motherboard with IDE RAID, but they are pretty slim. However I have found a bunch with SATA RAID. I have seen adaptors that go from IDE to SATA, I was wondering if I hook them to my HDDs and run them in RAID is there going to be a significant data transfer (performance) loss.

Thanks

KD

Also my HDDs are 120GB 8mb cache (if it matters)

Thanks for the link. Am I reading it right that I should get the whole 100 out of my HDDs?

I guess what I am asking is how much does the adaptor slow down the ATA HDDs? I know I can't get the 150 the SATA provides, but do I get most of my 100, or does the adaptor slow down the transfer.

Thanks
