Hello all,

So I recently found out that I mistakenly installed my OS (Windows 8.1) with IDE mode enabled in my BIOS. I have to flash and upgrade the BIOS and maybe update some drivers but otherwise everything is functioning normally.

When I found out that I was running in IDE mode I went through two methods to change it to AHCI without reinstalling the OS. These methods are illustrated here: http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable-ahci-in-windows-8-after-installation/

I used the first method and it all went well except for one issue. I got this error:

I/O ERROR

REPLACE DISK AND PRESS ANY KEY

The odd thing is that when I press any key, it boots right into Windows. lol. So I decided to try the Registry Edit method as well but realized that there isnt a "StartOverride" folder in the "storahci" registry. So, I dont know what my problem is. Do I create a StartOverride folder and put in a DWORD? Do I edit something else?

Usually it is best to do a clean install when this kind of stuff happens.

lol I know. Honest. But I just didnt feel like it. Now, I will say though, I changed a few settings in BIOS for power and performance but before that turned off my computer completely. When i came back and turned it on during lunch, it worked lol. I dont get it but it worked fine. No error, no changes needed. Maybe it just needed a proper shut down without the hard drive running to get things molded properly. I guess I should also ask, do I disable Fast Boot in Windows settings? Maybe that will also help.
