IDE still used?

so i'm getting a new mobo/cpu combo. do modern mobo's still use IDE, or only SATA?

i dont know man. havent been paying attention to the hardware seen the last 2 years. im used to IDE. what's an optical drive? haha. sorry!!!

I am not using PATA devices in my machine. 7 hard drives and 1 DVD burner, all SATA.

i only have 2 HD's and 1 DVD durner. i think they all have SATA hookups. my old mobo just didnt use it. guess i will now.

but is IDE still around?

Newer motherboards are starting to have only 1 PATA connection instead of the normal 2. It hasn't dissappeared completely yet, but it is going away it seems. Slowly going the way of ISA slots.

optical drives are CD/DVD etc. drives, but i guess they're slowly moving away from PATA (IDE) as well.
IDE's still around. All the new boards will still have hookups for it, but it's on the wane. Anyhow, it shouldn't factor too much in choosing a new mobo/cpu combo at any rate.

Most places on the net will show pics of the hardware you're buying. Look at them. If you see ide, you're in luck

Most new mobos will have at least one IDE connector, but there are some that have two. Just check the specs of the board you intend buying.

Just remember - SATA drives are IDE!!! (Stands for Internal Drive Electronics) I think your question refers to PATA.

PATA hard drives are gradually fading away - but opticals are still prevalent and will require the PATA controller and connector. There are some SATA opticals, but they are not yet in the majority.

Thank you. I was just about to post this, as the IDE=PATA lingo gets thrown around quite a bit.

Most hardware developers also list specs on their web sites. Also most hardware vendors list product specs on their sites.
