ide software raid?

I have three ide drives lying and was wondering if there is an improvement in performance over a single or mirrored drive with software raid 5? Is it worth it?

Software RAID 5 is absolute CRAP for performance.
A Dual PII 400, 3x80GB RAID 5 (Windows 2000 Server) gets aorund 5MB/s writing speed.
For storage, it's a great way to save some money, but not performance.
