Hey I just built a computer with a 20gig 7.2k ibm 60gxp, 950 duron, 52x sony cdrom, and a 16x liteon. At first I put the cd rom and cdr on the same IDE cable. This gave me warning when I tried to burn from cd to cd with nero. So I recofigured it with the CD-ROM and harddrive on one IDE cable and the CDR on the other. It still took 10 minutes to burn and I was using the proper media. Any help guys to get it to burn faster like it is able to?

Thanks

Its still going to be a slow burn, comparitively speaking, from CD to CD because you simply can't get the kind of speeds you can with a HDD. If you want a faster burn speed, create an image and burn from the image. Honestly that's your best bet too, b/c putting that CD rom on the same IDE cable with your HDD is ultimately going to slow down the HDD (IDE operates at the slowest of all devices on a cable, which more often than not is the CD drive).

Honestly, this really is not true. I got the following quote from a FAQ here on Anandtech:

You can use a ATA33 drive on a ATA66/100/133 channel and since all current controllers provide independent device timing, they will not affect each other's operation.

If you want to look at the full article, go

I personally keep my DVD-ROM as slave to my booting hard drive on the primary channel and my CD-RW as master on my secondary channel. This way I can burn direct from CD or from the hard drive without any concern. The only problem that could possibly arise is when installing from the DVD-ROM to the hard drive, and I can use my CD-RW for that instead.
