IDE setup with SATA Boot drive?

What is the best setup for these IDE devices?

Hard disk (Maxtor)
CD-RW (Lite On)
DVD-RW (Pioneer)

Notes:
- The boot drive is a separate SATA Raptor drive.
- I use the system for video editing, I store my video files on the IDE hard disk.
- I use XP Pro
- Mainly concerned with burning to DVD and CD.

Thanks in advance.

If you use that Maxtor hard disk as your cache drive for burning CD's and DVD's, put it on 1 IDE channel as the master and then the CDRW & DVD-RW on the other IDE channel as master and slave. If you do lots of CD to DVD burning or vice versa, put the CDRW and DVD-RW on seperate IDE channels and put the Maxtor on either IDE channel.

Third option, get a SATA adapter and put your Maxtor on the other SATA connector and then put your CDRW and DVD-RW on separate IDE channels.

I have this exact set-up and I'm having a problem....mebbe OP can help me or someone else?

SATA: Raptor (Boot Drive)
Storage: Maxtor 120GB on IDE Channel 0 Master
DVD/CD-RW: IDE Channel 1 Master
DVD-RW: IDE Channel 1 Slave

I set up WinXP Pro last night and it detected the SATA drive and installed there. However, it still does not detect the Maxtor drive. When I boot up it tells me it's doesnt see a drive there and to press F1 to continue to windows. Windows doesnt see it either. Any idea? Does it need to be set to slave or something? Thanx in advance for the help.

Is the jumper set correctly on your Maxtor to be a Master?

If the BIOS doesn't see it, Windows definitely wont. You need to double check the jumperts...or do what techfuzz suggested. Get a SATA adapter and run it on the 2nd SATA connecter.

Thanx...it works now. I had a feeling it was the jumper settings and that was it. Maxtor doesnt tell you what style to use, so I confused it with the different types they have. It's working now. Thanx again.
