IDE reverting to PIO mode constantly, are there any ways to force DMA?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ide drivers and trying to force DMA mode through the drivers as well, but it keeps going to PIO mode, which is horribly slow. any ways to force it other than those listed above?

IDE setup:
1x200gb Seagate as primary master, using an 80conductor cable and no slave on a P4GD1.

update: fixed, turns out i had to change the ide mode from advanced to compatable in bios.
