I've tried looking this up but all the articles seem years old.

I have a Samsung 160GB ATA 133 drive. If I purchase an identical drive, can I RAID 1 them or are modern RAID arrays only SATA? Also, do I need to buy a hardware controller for IDE RAID 1, or, for that matter, buy anything other than the second hard drive? Thanks.

You can RAID IDE drives. However, it appears that your board only supports RAID on the SATA ports. I'm basing this on the description and picture of your board at the Newegg site. Your manual will tell you for certain if the board supports IDE RAID.

So, in this case you would need a controller along with the 2nd drive.

Thanks...I haven't checked my manual yet (Edit: Checked a few sites, it very much seems that I do not have onboard IDE RAID), but presuming I need a controller, is quality important here or can I go with a cheapo like this?

Thanks again for the help.

Well, I don't really know.

I guess I would say that if the budget is important to go for it. If you can spend more however, myself, I would.

I've been having Punkbuster problems with BF2 (and with BF1942 back in the day) so I started a support ticket at Evenbalance.com. The guy I'm talking to said to make sure I get a recent model and make sure the drivers are WHQL. I can't work it out from that page, or find any other info, so I e-mailed the Geeks.com people. But if you know of a way I can find out more about this controller myself please let me know.

Thanks for the help and the follow up.
