IDE RAID Question

I'm looking for a little more space and hard drive speed and am wondering if getting another drive like the one I already have in a striping RAID would be faster than a single newer drive.

My current drive:
Western Digital 102BA 7200rpm 2MB UDMA/66

Would two of these drives in a RAID be faster than, say, one IBM 75GXP?

Thanks for any info...

Depends what you want it for.

RAID0 doesn't increase seek time, but it does drastically increase transfer rate.

For most peoples normal use seek time is more important so the 75GXP would be faster than the 102BA (two in RAID = same seek time).

If you happen to be doing something transfer rate intensive it would be a closer call....the 102BA would be near doubled in RAID0. But I don't know what the Raw transfer rate on those drives is...it's fairly high on the 75 and 60 GXPs even with a single just becuase of the high bit density...
