IDE question vs HardDrive and CDROM

I have a 80 gig HD and a CDRW. Should i put them both on the same IDE cable and make the HD master. Or separate IDE cables with both being master.

Please give me insight on both options and tell me the benefits or whatnot please. thanks much guys, i really apprecite it
