IDE Problems.

Ok... I just fixed my computer thanks to the help of MechBGon. But... now it isn't detecting my IDE's. Master/Slave etc. I have it set to exactly how it use to be. HDD is Primary Master, I have no secoundary Primary Master. And my CD Burner is set to Master on secoundary. And my CD-Rom is set to Slave on secoundary. And I have the IDE's in correctly.

1) set the motherboard's BIOS to "AUTO" for all positions and see if that's what the deal is

2) if that happens to be an older InWin S-series case, some of them have a stray domed standoff under the area where motherboards typically have the IDE plugs located, I ran into that with my old S500 and my Abit BP6. The domed standoff would look like the one in the second photo on this page If I happen to have guessed right, then slip an expired credit card between the mobo and the standoff to insulate them from eachother 😀 Core concept: the motherboard should only have standoffs under its mounting holes, nowhere else.

3) consider the out-of-the-case benchtest on cardboard to eliminate other possible short-circuit situations.

Ok. So I set them all to Auto and it reads my HDD and one of my Roms. It goes to the screen that tells you all about your computer. The 2nd screen before the OS Logo comes up. And it says, Searching for Boot Record from IDE-0... OK then it just sits there.

Does the hard drive have (ok this is a dumb question) a Windows installation on it, and was the Windows installation done on this motherboard or some other one? WindowsXP doesn't like motherboard swapouts, you generally plan on a reinstall of Windows as part of the deal.

Not a dumb question. You are actually correct, I did install Windows XP on the HDD in the computer im on right now. That could be it I'm reformatting and installing XP as we speak. I got a question, why won't it find my CD-R/CD-RW 52x52x52 CD Burner. It cost me 50$... When I took the IDE out to change the jumpers I notice one of the pins was bent so I moved it back with a steak knife. And it plugged in fine... It's happened before to me and my friend but it never actually broke.. Think it's broken or has a problem with Jumpers? I have it on Auto if so I'm done because That's my only burner 🙁.

When you get a break in the action, try the CD-RW as the only drive on that cable and see if it is recognized, as a fact-finding step. Also try swapping the Master/Slave assignment between the CD-ROM and the CD-RW drive, I've seen that resolve recognition issues before.

Ok I'll try that after the reformatt is done... BTW is there any way to contact you through any messenger? I have some other issues with my computer and you are the only smart person I have really been able to get help from. If you want to keep yourself private away from people messaging you. Then that's ok, just a question. I have AIM, MSN and Yahoo.

I don't normally use IM programs, sorry 🙁 More of a Forum-type guy, I need time to compose my advice (and often to edit it for clarity 😱).

Well in that case do you want to hear some of my other problems with my computer? It's speed based and it's kinda weird and I doubt you'll know the answer but I can try it if you want.
