There are new cases on the market with front panel IDE ports. I think this is neat and something I could use from time to time. What type of equipment is required to connect an IDE port front panel? Also, where can I locate a supplier? I want to add a port to my present case.

That is weirdly kool... I have just thought of a half dozen uses for it without breaking a brain sweat.
. Though when I read the top message on the thread, I was thinking SATA because of more reasonable connector sizes and longer acceptable cable lengths.
. DigiKey has those IDC (insulation displacement connection) IDE 40 pin plugs with screw mount ears but quite expcnsive - prassembled cables also very! expensive. Unfortunately only for 40/40 uses, so nothing more than UDMA/UATA 33 speed. Try also Jameco, JDCMicrodevices and BGMicro.

Wow that is cool. That would be good if you had the PC set for data recovery or drive cloning.

I was thinking the same thing, where is the power connector? When I saw the small power plug I counted the pins on the drive connector to make sure it wasn't a floppy connector. That is after I put my bifocals on.

Ewww... long cables, multiple junctions for the conductor, and a setup that just invites someone to plug things in while the power is still on (there's a reason SATA's connectors are staggered - hot swap and power disconnect). I'll stick with USB enclosures.
