IDE/PATA HDD in a SATA Mobo

Hi Guys,
Trying to use an IDE/PATA drive from my old computer in a new computer with only SATA connectors. I have bought a IDE to SATA converter and wired it up as required (SATA to mobo, power to converter and power to the HDD). The drive turns on and I can see a light on the converter so I know they are working. The issue is that both the bios and windows don't see the hard drive. Not sure what I can do?

Some converters had issues being recognized. Is it an old converter?

You may be better off with an external USB enclosure that will accept the PATA drive if it's essential that you use that drive.

Yeah, I think I will have to do that. The converter was an ebay special (no name) - so probably explains why it doesn't work. Thanks.

The description of what you purchased and are trying to use is inadequate.

If it is something like a Promise IDE PCI controller card, then you will see the controller and relevant connected hard drives register (ie, on screen) during POST.

The two posted above are pretty much the same as the one I bought. Do I need to leave the jumper switch on or off? I tried with it off.
