IDE Master/Slave relationship?

on a standard ide cable, is there any order you should the devices on the cable? or does it not matter?

i.e.

should it be like this:
||============||=====||
mobo--------------master----slave

or like this:
||============||=====||
mobo--------------slave-----master

On a ata 66/100/133 the order is, Blue goes to mobo,grey goes to slave & master goes to black.

what budman said is right as well, only if you are using cable select on both drives. If you have the drives set to master or slave it doesnt make a difference where on the cable you hook it. For old ata33 cables when you are using cable select it goes

board slave master

but again only in cable select mode
