It seems to me, that there is only one thing more numerous then Hydrogen in this Galaxy. And that is incompetent teachers/administrators/bosses/anyone else who just makes you bitter because they are idiots and have authority.

I want to hear your stories. Please.

I?ll get the ball rolling.

My senior year in high school, I took a class on Statistics. We needed to come up with samples that would make up a survey. In the back of the book, was an appendix of made up statistics (i.e. age, weight, heights) for about 125 ?people?. The people were numbered instead of having names. We were then to use a page of random numbers (also in the book) to choose these fictitious people as if it was a real random survey. I wrote a program in my calculator to generate these random numbers instead of using the ones in the back of the book. I got detention for 2 days and my calculator taken away until the year ended. I was ?using the calculator inappropriately.?

Ok... do any of you have any stories of idiots on power trips?

I don't really recall my encounters cos I chose to forget about em. But one thing I do remember is getting detention for being late to school. But damn it, The whole school bus was late that day! Stupid ass.

Edit: I forgot to say that there was an accident on the road and that's why we were late....

I have come to the conclusion that public school's objective is not to educate you but instead to turn you into a law abiding citizen ie political sheep. If you think the western school is bad, wait till you see some of the school here.

Quite frankly, alot of those people are teaching because well, they are mediocre, unexceptional people. Sorry if that sounds arrogant, but what I mean is that they don't really encourage innovation or unconventional thinking. They go about their lives doing boring things the same way everyone else does and they will probably live the rest of their lives that way. Let's face it, inspired, brilliant, super intelligent people generally aren't going to teach a class of undermotivated HS students. Only suckers for punishment do that. It's not that K-12 educators are bad people, quite the contrary they tend to be good. But they certainly can be thick skulled and ignorant.

When you get to college, especially into a good program, you'll see a reversal IMO. The administration will still be a bunch of dicks, but that's pretty much true everywhere. But alot of my professors are IMO really exceptional people. One of them is a millionaire who is set and just teaches to pass time. I've had several profs who at one time or another worked for JPL. One of them was directly involved in the Viking Mars landers and has some incredibly hilarious and funny things to say about the space program. One of my current professors troubleshooted a digital system project in five minutes, which me and my lab partner couldn't figure out in an hour and a half. My jaw seriously dropped when that happened.

I'm not sure if mine is that bad, but here it goes.

I was in band for all four years in high school, and it was run almost purely on politics, not talent or drive. By the end of my senior year, I was fed up, and so were my friends. So my friend wrote a little CF script to flood the message board of their website. The webmaster flipped out and told the directors that the four of us (us disgruntled guys) were hacking their website to pieces. The only thing the directors know about computers is Start>Programs>Accessories>Games>Solitaire, so naturally they assumed we were 1337 hax0rz. What's worse, the webmaster saved a conversation I had with him (on AIM) about how sucky the band was, and he gave that to the directors, who apparently thought I was threatening their lives. So they tried to have me suspended AND arrested. Needless to say, the police didn't give a rat's ass, and the principal just made me pick up trash for 15 minutes. Wow, I sure learned my lesson. I'll never let my friends write in ColdFusion again.

in my pre-calculus class last year in highschool.. we had a quiz and a bonus question with one of those "find a number that fits these requirements" question...

i got out my trusty TI-86 calclator and ran a simple looping program where is basically took every number from 1 to infinity and tested it against the requirements... (it was also nice to have a 400% overclocked calculator at this point)...

i got the bonus right and my teacher asked me how i did it, and he told me i was very "resourceful"

Dang it, they dont have anything for my Ti-89, which is all I would want to OC. The 3d graphing is pretty darn slow.
