CompUSA "installed" an IDE card in my good old (please don't laugh) Hewlet Packard 8655c, but didn't connect it to the 2nd hard drive. There are only three people around here who work on computers and they can't get it going and I kind of can't get out and around like I used to. CompUSA all but told me to go take a leap because it was working when it left their store and if they look at it again, its $98 and hour and no guarantees.
The main HD is the 30 gig that came with it but the second one is a 13 gig IBM with a zillion jumper setting combinations possible. I've put a ribbon cable on both connectors to the IDE but when I connect either one to the second HD - the message says for me to remove media and disks and touch any key to restart. Well, there ain't a 3.5" in the drive, nor a ZIP disk in that drive, so what in the heck do I do now? I've spent days disconnecting and reconnecting plugs and resetting jumpers, and nothing seems to work.
The little icon that says ITE Raid Manager is there but when I pull it up, its says there are no devices.
I would deeply appreciate any help, even suggestions - anything!
