ide harddrives

I have 2 7200rpm 40gb harddrives and 1 5400rpm 40gb harddrive. What's the best placement for these drives with respect to primary master/slave and secondary master/slave? Is it better to place both the 7200rpm drives on the primary ide or to have that solely for the hd w/ my os? I am just worried about degrading performance on the hd w/ my os. I know the combination of the other drives is also an issue but my main concern is the c: drive. Is there even a noticeable performance decrease w/ the two 7k drives on the primary ide? Thanks.

The only time performance is lost is when you are copying files between two drives on the same IDE channel. So perhaps if you know you will copying files between a certain 2 drives then make sure they are on seperate IDE channels.

which is your ide 33/66/100? I put mine on the same channel on
a promise 100, works great, since I know that I'll swap lots of data
between 'em. If your board is only 33, you can boot off the card,
works great on most mbs.

They are all ata 100 compliant and the ide connectors are integrated hpt370 controller. Just wondering how you guys would set that up. Thanks for the info guys.

First, put the faster drive as the master, and I was always told to plug in the master drive at the end of the cable and the slave in the middle. This is because the Master is in control of the channel. I had an explanation for this on the net, but I don't remember where.
