I'm assembling a server box from the parts left over from my Celeron 300a@450 on BX mb combo.

I need a new hard drive - the cheaper the better - but wondering if the BX chipset with its ATA33 interface can take proper advantage of the newer 7200rpm drives, or if a 5400rpm drive will offer essentially equal performance on that interface?

Regards,

Most newer 7200rpm drives will max the ATA33 interface but not by much. If you did go with a 7200rpm drive you wouldn't be losing a whole lot of performance by putting it on an ATA33 interface. Have you thought about getting a brand spanking new drive and putting that in your main computer. Then you could take a used hard drive from your main computer and drop it in the server.
