IDE Hard Drive and WinXP

I reformatted my PC on my 120GB IDE. After doing so, I noticed that one of the two other hard drives I have appeared when I went into 'My Computer' on the newly installed Windows XP. The one that shows up is my 80GB SATA, but I also have a 300GB IDE with files on it that I need. How do I make this drive show up? Thank you.

Welcome to the Forums 🙂 Try this:

edit: first update to Service Pack 2 if you haven't done so already. Here is a link to the full SP2 installer if you need.

1) right-click on My Computer on the Start Menu or on the Desktop, whichever. Choose Manage from the right-click menu. The Computer Management window opens.

2) go down the Computer Management window to Disk Management and it should be something like this pic.

3) if the drive is listed, then good. You may need to right-click the drive's icon where it says Disk2 or whatever, and initialize it. Or you may need to right-click the bar that represents the partition and assign it a drive letter.

Any good?

Since you have data on the drive I wouldn't touch anything in disk management. 😛 I think Mech is right about SP2 though, and quite honestly that is all you should have to do. 🙂
