IDE Dvd writer with new motherboard. will it work?

Hi,
I am upgrading my current p4 to i7 950 and gigabyte ud3r motherboard. The problem is my Dvd writer is finely working but its on IDE port. So will it work with new motherboard gigabyte ud3r?
What I have been told by dealers is that, it won't work. I need to get SATA dvd writer. This situation is same with Harddisk. HDD is perfectly working but its on IDE port.
So, Whats solutions for this?

The motherboard has one IDE connection, so you will be able to still use both devices. I'm not sure why you'd get a new motherboard and use old drives with it though, seems like a waste to me.

Your DVD writer will work fine though. I'm still using my IDE DVD burner from 2006. It works great, the new ones aren't any better except for lightscribe support (which I don't use anyway) so why buy a new one? That's what I figure.

Thankx guys for information. But the things is, I had asked this to many dealers and they say, I can't attached an IDE dvd writer to this motherboard. There will be some power problems.

"Power problems?" You don't get those connecting drives to the motherboard, they get energy from the power supply. Even new ones have no shortage of molex connectors.

Your dealers are morons.

The dealers are just trying to make an additional sale - a SATA optical.

Attach the optical to the PATA port. Power should be no problem - requirement is the same for PATA or SATA. If it doesn't work, then get a new SATA optical. My sense is that it will work just fine.

You should at least get a SATA hard drive. They're cheap. That old PATA one is probably on its last legs by now and you lose performance by sharing a cable
