IDE drive recognition issues

For some reason, my computer detects my two hard drives as my Third IDE Master/Slave and my CD-R drive as Fourth IDE Master.

This confuses me, because it did not detect this way when I had just one HDD.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Can you be more specific? Are you referring to the bios? As you using Cable Select for setting Master/Slave hdd configuration? Try using the jumper setting method for Master/Slave configuration and see if this will make a difference.

Hi, Jiggy has the right Idea. Forty pin and wire cables must use Master/Slave settings. Newer, usually 40 pin/80 wire cables are usually CABLE SELECT (CS). They will have color coded connectors. They must be set with both drives on the cable to CS. Position on the cable determines which is C: and which is D: etc. Good Luck, Jim
