IDE devices won't work with any cable. help?

I have an epox 8kta3, and it came with 2 ATA100 cables.
I lost one at a LAN, and now any IDE cable I use with it, won't work. I can put any device on it, and it won't even power on. When I use one of the original cables, it works, but not the others I have (4-5 of them, which are ata66).

No idea what to do..
I tried different HDs and CD-rom drives, no difference, still won't power on with another cable.

does it require a special IDE cable? I doubt it :\

It shouldn't require any special cable. An IDE cable is an IDE cable (well, there are different types, but and IDE should work). It would just say that your ATA100 won't be enabled because you are using 40 pin connectors. Make sure the power is plugged in to everything, check the bios to see if ATA100 is enabled or disabled, anything else you need to do with Epox boards guys?

i'll check BIOS settings, but the speed check is set to Auto, so if the device is ata33 it should be working at that speed, and not if it's ata100 only.

Some IDE systems are set up for cable select in which case you need a cable that has a little cut or hole in it that allows cable select to function. The drives must also have the correct jumper settings.
