Hi, I just ordered a new Ibm Deskstar 60gb 60gxp. My mobo has 2 ide channels. I have a Dvd Drive, Tdk Cdwriter, and my old hd. I currently have the two cd drives on one channel and my old Hd the other. Having the two cd drives on 1 channel has caused slight problems when copying disc to disc but not often. I am wondering what devices I should put on which channels when I get the new HD. I am going to use the new Hd as my main drive, for windows, games etc. I am going to use the old Hd for Linux and mp3s and other random files. In my opinion the best setup would be- Channel One: Tdk burner and Main HD. Channel Two: Secondary Hd and Dvd drive. The reason I think this would be best is because 1. it would eliminate disc to disc copying problems since they are on diffrent channels 2. There wouldn't be any bandwidth problems when playing a game off the main HD and using the dvd cd drive at the same time.
Is my idea correct? or do you suggest something diffrent. Thanks in advance.

No your best option will be
primary master : Ne hard drive
primary slave: DVD rom
Secondary master: CDRW
Secondary salve: old HD

Hrmmmh.

I have the previous set up - 2 HD's one channel and the DVD / CDRW on the other.

I am going to try the one recommended.

Thanks

Could you guys explain why this is the preferred setup?

Harry, your choice for your new HD (IBM) is not optimal!

That series and the 75's are prone to failure, especially
in a high heat environment, which you will have with two
HD's stacked together.

Change your order to Matxtor or WD or be ready for the
RMA experience. :disgust:

Or he could just pray he's lucky. Some of them actually work (although mine didn't). Just keep very regular backups.
