Has anyone had any problems with IDE CD burners? Some of my friends have said I should stick with SCSI, but that would require additional money to purchase a SCSI card. Would I have problems burning at 8x and playing games or doing other things? If I do get a IDE burner, what should I set it to? My current setup is:

PM: IBM 30 GB 75GXP
PS: Nothing
SM: Pioneer 104S (10X DVD)
SS: IBM 10 GB (10 or 14 GXP, can't remember)

The 10 GB is currently just being used to store MP3's. Should I set the burner to PS, or switch around one of my secondary drives? Burn from which HD, or does it matter? I guess if I get an IDE I can just experiment around.

For IDE drives, it is recommended that the source drive and the burner are on separate channels, since your system can only access one drive on a channel at single time. So if you burn from your dvd rom and 10gig drive more, put it on PS. If you burn more from the dvd rom and your main hd, put it on SM and the dvd on PS.

As for CDRW recommendations, I would have to go with the Plextor 12/10/32A with burnproof.

I have never had a problem with an IDE CD-R/RW. I have been using them since my P133 with a Sony 8X/2X.

I know Plextor is a good brand, but I think that's a bit out of my budget. What are some other good brands? Is Yamaha a good? I looking for drives that are in the $125-150 range possibly at 8x.

I have had no problem with Plextor, i have only had one coaster and that was when DMA wasn't enabled

I have a smart & friendly cd-rw that I believe is a 8x4x32 and I have a sony 8x4x32 SCSI at work and my smart & friendly I think definately runs quicker
