I'm throwing this box together, and don't have video card or OS yet. So anyway,

I have a SATA HDD attached to the SATA1 socket on the Asus A8N-E FM/S (Puny mobo, but hell of a deal). I have a DVD Player and a DVD RW, both IDE. If I'm Not Mistaken, there's more than one way to skin the cat re: hooking them up, so what's best and why?

A. One cable: Player at end (Master jumper set), RW at middle (Slave jumper set), cable plugged in Blue Primary mobo IDE socket

B. Same as A., but in Black Secondary mobo IDE socket

C. Two cables: Player hooked to Blue Primary mobo IDE socket (Master Jumper set), RW hooked to Black Secondary mobo IDE socket (Slave jumper set)

D. Same as C., but both Master jumpers set

E. Other, you tell me.

Edit: Oh, you asked why, too.
They both have to be master if they're on separate channels because each channel needs a master. They should be on separate channels if you're ever going to run them both at the same time, so that they're not fighting for access to the same I/O controller.
