IDE Cables Question

You know how a new IDE cable comes with labels on it telling you where to put which socket, such as Master, Slave, Motherboard. And they have different colors, Black=Master, Blue=Motherboard, Grey=Slave. Does this really matter? Can I use them any way I want as long as I have one plugged into each? Thanks for your input.

It doesn't really matter, unless you use the "cable Select" function on your hard / CD - drives. Then the drive will configure itself according to which connector was used. If you just jumper the drives master and slave manually you don't need to bother with the labels and markings.
