Hi, I have a friend who just built a new computer based on the Shuttle KT266A chipset mother board and AMD Athlon XP 1600+ processor. Here is what he related:

"I've gotten it together, gotten it to load, got windows on it, and I have most of my drivers and basic programs installed on it. I only have a few problems. for one thing, each time I start up my PC it tells me that my IDE cables from my HDD to my Motherboard, and from my DVD-ROM to my mother board are not installed?! .. I'm not sure what that means. I mean I can add and write to the HD and everything. Also for some reason my floppy drive isn't working either. Maybe its just me and the ribbon cables. I'm not sure. Also I seem to be running out of IRQ spaces?! .. How does that work? can I make more? can I remove somethings?! Right now I cannot install my Road Runner on my new comp because of it."

What ever help you all can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

looks like he is getting the message that he has got 80 pin ata 100 ide cables installed its not a problem (i think its 80 pin)

as for the floppy not working is the drive light constantly on? if so he has the cables the wrong way round.. if not check the bios see if its switched off or make sure he got the power cable attached but if its not working and there is no error in the boot screen then chances are the floppy is turned of in the bios...

irq levels shouldnt be a problem at all if runing win2k / XP i think its not going to be a problem...

i cant think for the life of me why he cant setup RR because of irq levels mmm i think he should reset the bios to default see what happens then

hope this helps
