It's not so much the cables, as the controller itself that can only support two devices per channel. To add 3 burners (why?) you just need to have two on one channel and a third on the other.

You can use round cables, they are just flat cables that have been rounded, and sleeved.

Each IDE channel only supports 2 drives I think. Why would you want three burners?

EDIT: Darn you Captain Howdy, beat me to it. However, I have to add that round cables also need taking care of to take full advantages of the improved airflow.

i appreciate the feedback, but my reasons for needing 3 burners doesn't concern you (i find it annoying when ppl make comments why do you etc)

anyways, i get the idea tho and makes sense

there is Primary Master/Slave and Secondary Master/Slave, i'm assuming that's what you're referring to as Channels

or am i wrong

You have two channels each with a sepearate connector on the motherboard. One channel is the primary channel, the other one is the secondary. Each channel can have a master and a slave on it, giving a total of 4 devices. If you need more devices than that then you have to use a PCI card to get them.

Well, if your HDD's are SATA, then you should have all your IDE channels free. So you could do a maximum of 4 optical drives.

Otherwise, there are optical drives that run on SATA.

rod is right about SATA optical drives existing. I saw that someone reviewed a SATA Plextor DVD burner but it didn't perform as well as the best IDE DVD burner. And it costs more...

I can't see why ppl copy movie DVD's. You can buy a legit copy of the movie for the price of about three dual-layer discs. unlike C.D.'s where a legit copy is fifty times the cost of a blank.

Disclaimer: Mod's - everything I just said is purely hypothetical. I'm sure noone here endorses buring copyright CD's/DVD's.

I have a plex SATA DVDRW, Pioneer IDE DVDRW, and Lite On CDRW/DVD combo, I have my reasons;), and they work great, i can use all 3 at the same time, I rarely do though, occasionally 2 at a time. I did have 4 IDE drives in the system, 2 on one channel, and 2 on the other, hard drives on SATA, or controller card. The main thing to set these up, is to have the reader on one channel and the writer on the other, as in my case I have all three on seperate channels.

Answer to your original question is - No, there is no such beast.

What about those CD/DVD copying machines that can burn like 10 at once? Forgot what they were called...

Maybe he has mistaken IDE with SCSI that can have upto 15 devices percable. An IDE to SCSI adapter attached to an Adaptec 2940UW PRO found on ebay might be his soltuion. If you want a cheaper methond get an ATAPI compatable controller card and install two CD drives on it using two separate cables for maximum performance.

You can get PCI cards with IDE sockets, I assume there's a small performance hit, if any since the same exists for SCSI drives.

Also I assume there's some converters to take a IDE drive and plug it into a SATA connector, though I would assume some performance hit here (pehaps not noticable given the speed of an optical drive).
