IDE Cable Length and Reliability?

OK, I am building a File server type of case out of Oak, and my 18" ata100 cables are just not cutting it in the length dept. I do intend on reverting back to scsi sometime in the future, however/ I want to run IDE for the time being, and am wondering if any 1 has any input as to how IDE cables run as far as reliability in the 22 to 24" persuasion?
