I have a setup with 2 hard drives and 2 DVD drives...however, my IDE cables are just about 2" too short to give me the best master/slave configuration. Do IDE cable "extension cables" exist???

Yes, it's called buying a longer cable.

There was a spec for max IDE cable length which, IIRC was 18 inches.

This is old but worth a read - LINKME

svc.com has good prices on 24" and 36" rounded IDE cables. Check out their other stuff too, to make the most out of that shipping charge, hehe.

I'm using 24" cables right now which are about 2" too short...could go up to 36" but would rather not increase the risk of data corruption with the excessively long cable. I was just curious to know if there is such a thing as a short extension cable (maybe 2" or 4") that I could add on to my 24" cable...

No such thing. What you can do is re-locate the drives or use a longer cable.
