I'm building my first PC and I just received a MSI Pro2-A Motherboard. It came with an IDE cable and it's very clear how to connect to my hard drive (since they left a hole out of it on both sides). I'm going to use the cable that came from my hard drive for my DVD drive on the 2nd IDE slot. The cable that my hard drive came with does not have a missing hole so I do not know which direction it should go? I noticed a pink stripe on one side of the cable. Does this mean the pink side should go to the left side of the dvd rom? And what about the ide slot? Thanks for you help :)

The pink or red edge is for pin 1 . . . that generally, usually, always goes towards the Molex power connector (4-pin.)

Looking from the back of my dvd rom, the ATAPI connector is to the left of the power connector. (When held in the position as it will be placed in the case). So which pin is number 1? Is it the upper left? Thanks ! :)

Looks like this:
