I am looking for a new mainboard. Pentium D, intel 930 cpu. looking at gigabyte, intel, asus, 975 chipset. it will be sata hard drives at raid 0. the gigabyte has pata 2x ata 100, intel 1x ata 100, asus 2x ata 100. it is here where my confusion lies. can i connect my three atapi, eide devices to these connections which i think gigabyte said they were for the hard drive only.
From what i have been reading IDE & ATA are basically the same thing so pretty much anthing, that has an ata standard will work with any I/O controller as long as they both support the performance level. with that said the lower performance level of a DVD Rom, burner ,etc. should work on those connection. Yes/No ? Very Confusing Help!!!

You can connect all three devices to either the gigabyte or the asus, but the intel does not have enough connectors. Each ata/100 connector (I'm sure they're actually ata/133, but it doesn't matter) can connect to two devices. So the Gigabyte & Asus boards can connect to 4 total, the intel board just 2 total.

Quick Answer: Yes

Thanks for takin the time to answer. Nothing i read ever directly said you can hook them up like that. Thanks again
