ide 80 conductor detection issue on custom board

I'm making my own ETX baseboard and have tried grounding cblid-p, but it's still detecting no 80 conductor cable and reverting to udma2. I'm not using any cable at all, the ide connector connects directly to the hard drive's pins (laptop style).
