What do you think has had more of an impact on the rapidly declining PC sales?

  • Rise of tablets, as an entertainment &/or computing device

  • Stagnation(x86) due to a combination of poor software implementation & less(er) hardware gains

Hmm, interesting. Any idea on when Silvermont based tablets will appear? Seems like a much more compelling and complete product, since it is a complete SOC.

not to mention the fact that desktops and laptops themselves arent touch centric from an ergonomic standpoint. there is just no reason, other than to make it look like a tablet, for a desktop or laptop to have a touchscreen

I can't stand large-screen formats combined with touchscreen. It seems like such a waste of energy, makes me think "now here is the reason we invented keyboards and mice - minimal motion = happy customers".

On small form factor screens the "minimal motion" does just so happen to be to turn the entire screen into a touchpad no different than the one on my laptop.

Good for Intel on getting a decent design win. But 1280x800 is really crappy for a 10.1 screen these days, it really should be 1080p at a min. I'm guessing the crappy screen was one of the compromises because they used Intel.

So its also a limitation for ARM? Because the current Galaxy Tabs are the same. :whiste:

iPads use custom ARM soc and are running at 2048x1536, its not an ARM issue, its a cost issue.

Point was its completely irrelevant if its ARM or x86. The Galaxy Tab would be the same resolution and same cost.

Hell, Samsung changing to x86 might even say that x86 is better.

Maybe they already have seen what silvemont can do a and start migration to x86 on tablets and with prior atom generation. Maybe next Galaxy phone uses silvermont?

Spreading rumors makes fun. ;)

And HP is saying the opposite. :awe:

Here's how Techpowerup quoted their source: "The information comes from Japanese PC Watch, which cites sources in the PC industry." That's not very specific, is it?

What do you want them to say- "this information comes from Dave, in cubicle 7 on floor 3 of MSI's head office. The one with a ponytail"? :awe: For leaks like this, tech sites have to keep their sources anonymous if their sources want to keep their jobs.

Obviously, this makes it nigh on impossible to verify whether a rumour has just been made up or not, and we always have to take these things with a hefty pinch of salt. But we can't just deny them out of hand, as plenty of true stories have been broken by rumour sites with anonymous sources.

Stagnation is pretty bad. If you have a 6 year old PC that runs fine for your needs, why would you buy a new one? Also Microsoft could up Windows' system requirements, that would hurt at first but help in the long run.
