I'd say this site was hacked

I was surfing the net reading about battleships, really looking for pictures for my desktop, and came across the site for the USS Iowa

Hmm. Doesn't look like a battleship to me. 😉

It definitely used to be, according to google, which is how I found it.

Some people really need a life.

It almost seems obvious they used a translator?

Sign of a true geek.. would rather h@x0r computers then learn how to communicate like a human being.

I will admit that translating between portuguese / english is hard though.
My friend did a 90-page website translation - he started out correcting/proofreading an existing translation to portuguese and ended up starting over translating from english from scratch b/c the guy who attempted it before hand made 3-4 dozen mistakes just on the first page..

Either way, they're fricken retarded.

Well - nice to know Japanese teenagers have become as idle and scuzzy as American and European teenagers.

History lesson: The Japanese surrender was signed aboard the USS Iowa. Correct me if I'm wrong but I know that name rings a bell.

Note to self: Must stop watching filler documentaries on Discovery...

Hacking crap like that is totally useless and very annoying. It shouldn't be done. Of course, chatting in IRC all day isn't very useful either...oops...let's not go there 😉

Magicthyse

The surrender ceremony was aboard the USS Missouri
"USS Missouri, a 45,000 ton Iowa class battleship built by the New York Navy Yard, was commissioned on 11 June 1944. She spent the remainder of that year preparing for combat, transiting to the Pacific in November. Arriving in the war zone in January 1945, Missouri supported the Iwo Jima invasion, the Ryukyus campaign and raids on Japan's home islands during the following months. In May, she became Third Fleet flagship and was the site of the 2 September 1945 Japanese surrender ceremony that ended World War II."

no, the surrender was signed aboard the Missouri, sister ship of the Iowa , i think the Iowa was the last battleship decommissioned after the Gulf War
from the non-hacked pages of that site
USS IOWA(BB-61) History

1990

October 26 USS IOWA decommissioned. ?
guess i'm the slowest typer

Damn.

I musta have watched Japan Surrenders documentaries at least 5 times while waiting for something else to come on. Granted, I was only half paying attention but I was almost certain.

My brain is a sieve.

The Missouri is an Iowa-class battleship. That's what you are thinking of.

It is currently on display at Pearl Harbor, as a museum ship.

Iowa is on inactive reserve, sealed up and dehumidified, ready for reactivation, as is Wisconsin.

New Jersey is also a museum ship, on display in Camden, I think.
