Well, I've resisted installing a lot of utility programs for long enough..... this forum has shown me many different things lately and I'd like to share two of them.

1st: Mailwasher www.mailwasher.net
-useful for screening mail and getting rid of junk-mail/spam. Can be set to do so automatically, learns from what you do... bouncer which emulates an invalid e-mail (it's cut my spam by 80% in two weeks) and can automatically launch your e-mail program after it runs. Pop mail support only at this time (I think). I love this little program.

2nd: PopUpCop http://www.popupcop.com/?src=ff2
-seems to act like a plugin/toolbar in IE (perhaps other browsers, I use IE). I've been using it in its 30 day eval period (cost is $19.95... think I may just buy it) but it's highly customizeable (tell it to block cookies, javascript, flash animations, jpg animations, pop-ups, timers, etc.). It's stopped a number of the pop-ups I'm used to, eliminates some of those huge full screen adds that have been appearing at my.yahoo.com and other places, and has stopped all the flashing colors and sounds of other ads. Very interesting feature is its ability to tell you which of the customizeable options are active on the page you're currently on (somewhat anti-spyware-like).

Feel free to add your own suggestions. My next project is to try out girder or ir assistant with that creative remote... I have used the software that came with it, but customizing it to show geiss, etc, sounds like a fun project.

But who am I to argue with memendo.
Yet there is a thread in Software for posting helpful applications.
