My wife has put together a few websites in the past for different things, and I think I'd like to take a shot at it. Can anyone recommend a good hosting service? I have a www. address that is not taken picked out, how do I claim it?

All I really want to do is share pictures and possibly movies of the kids and stuff to share with my family back home, as well as have a legitamate e-mail address (yahoo just isn't cutting it anymore when applying for jobs). Am I correct in assuming that this should run ~$10/year?

thanks

Hmm...
For picking up and registering domain names...Use namecheap.com link
Usually, it will cost about $10.00 a year to register a domain through them!
I really love my web hosting service. I use them for my website...
Compare their plans here!
Their home page is here
I can really recommend them!
Good luck!

I dont think you will get good hosting for $10/year. But dixiesys is having a 2for1 sale starting oct 15-31.
A lot of members on these forums use them.

Another vote for NameCheap.com, I've registered my past few domains with them. Low price and you get a lot of features for your $.

As for webhosting I highly recommend going with Dixiesys.com which is starting their 2 for 1 special TODAY!

Hmmm, in terms of quality, what are some of the pitfalls of a service?

Just like your home ISP, it could be outages, slower than promised speeds, billing errors, lack of or little tech support, etc.

If you really want to find the best webhosting company your best bet is to check out WebHostingTalk.com especially their Web Hosting Requests forum where you post what you want, how much you're willing to pay and you usually have some offers within a few hours.
