I'd like to hear from Lite On users

I'll be building a system for my sister next month. She wants a cd burner. I use a TDK but they cost a lot more than the Lite On drives. I have no experience with Lite On. What do you think?

Just bought a lite-on 24x10x40 burner a few weeks ago, and I love it. Burned quite a few CDs with it and have yet to make a coaster, even at the higher speeds* - thanks to the burn-proof technology on the drive (I forget exactly what lite-on calls it). The drive seems to be able to read anything I can throw at it, DAE is good, and the drive is quite, too. No complaints here.

I just put a LiteOn 24x10x40 CD-RW drive into my girlfriend's computer. It has been running like a champ. I have seen similar threads on this forum. The vast majority of LiteOn CD-RW drive users have been very pleased with the operation of the drive.

I've been running my 12x10x32 for nearly a year. Its had a lot of use, no problems.

My LiteOn 16x10x40 didn't like windows XP for some reason (for the first few days it would burn fine, but after that it would take about a half hour to burn a cd, and then it just gave up altogether) It works great in win2k now though, so it must have been that crappy OS

That's really weird; I've been using mine under XP without a hitch...

I too am a recent lite on user.

THe burner is Excellent, and have yet to have one Coaster. I'm even burning on some cheap Princo Media.

I've had a 16x Lite-on for about a year now. It's doing great. I just put a 24x in my new P4/WinXP machine, and it's doing great too.

i have the 12/10/32 liteon and it works perfectly. i burned about 50 cdrs with that one and haven't had any problems yet.

I bought a Lite On 19" Screen with vga cable moulded in. Well, I bought it through a retailer and no way of getting any after sales service, without going through the retailer, who by the way sucks too.

So, a pretty bad experience for me, but then again it is different from what you are planning to buy.

Lots of people also having problems with Lite-On's. Search around.

I think it would be the perfect "sister" cd drive. As a burner it appears to be very high quality...and it copies SD2 protection which some very more expensive burners (cough...Plextor...cough) seem to be intentionally neglecting these days. Also as a reader I was very impressed with its speed...rivaling my Toshiba 12x/40x DVD drive. Its a good all-in-one solution in that regard...unless your sister also needs a dvd drive.

also satisfied. Altho, some of my 24x burns on compusa no brand media has had a little trouble being read in other drives (clocking down fixes that.. but that's not the fault of the drive.. the media just sux ). 2 of my roommates have 12x liteons and are happy. the fourth would have one too, but he got a sony for xmas (his tdk went fritzy and THEIR tech support was useless. Trying to get an RMA proved to be painstaking and he just gave up).

Bought a lite-on 24x10x40 burner from NewEgg a couple of months back. Had problems with a lot of coasters (using Nero under win2k), and then started getting a "hardware error" message. Sent it back to NewEgg for a replacement. Got the new unit in, and still made coasters under Nero, but got no hardware error message. Funny, the drive works fine with Roxio. But I decided to go with the Plextor 24x anyway, and it has given me no problems.

I know this will be a bit off topic, but I figured this is the right place to ask since we are talking about the Lite On..

I bought a Lite On 24x CDRW (oem), it comes bundled with Nero and InCD.. I was able to install and use both products from the bundled CD without any problems whatsoever on a WinXP Pro machine..

Recently, a friend of mine recently bought a new PC, they also got the Lite On 24x CDRW (oem) based on my suggestion, it also came bundled with Nero and InCD.. HOWEVER, they can only install Nero from =their= CD.. InCD refuses to be installed -- it gives an error message saying it's for Win95, 98, NT and 2000 only (something like that).. My friend is also running WinXP Pro, just like me..

I wrote a message to ahead (makers of Nero/InCD) and the guy responded with "InCD is supported under WinXP and I'm not sure when it will be" (I forget exactly what he said, but it was something like that).. What I DON'T understand is, why was I able to install it without any warning messages and why does it work perfectly in WinXP if this guy is telling me otherwise..? Also, why does my friend have problems installing it..? Do we possibly have different versions of InCD -- one that works and one that refuses to install..?

I told the guy to "give me a better answer" as it was just a "ah heck off" type response.. Any comments..?

Paulson can you please tell me how its picky on media? I would love to know because i just got a different brand new cd-rw and it seems to be picky on media too. Like does yours not like off brand cd-rs and cd-rws? Like it freezes up when it trys to read the data that is on them? Like compusa cd-rws and office depot cd-rs? These compusa cd-rws and office depot cd-rs worked fine on my HP 9110i 8x 4x 32x cd-rw btw.

My friend has one... it is a real workhorse (he is currently backing up his 100GB File Server) and has been working non stop in the last few days.

No problems at all, It proves that sometimes the equation CEAP+CHEAP=WORKHORSE is valid... in this case it is anyway: ECS MB and the LITE-ON 16x burner
(His whole machine is cobbled together from bits and pieces but his case cost 600$ though... it was a gift :disgust: )
