This is really cool.

How skilled do you need to be with CS Photoshop to do that?

Assuming the individual elements already existed... not that hard. It would most likely just be very time consuming to make the little details look good.

It means you can give someone a D3X or 1Ds and they cannot take better pictures than someone with a good eye with a point and shoot...

If you have CS5 that does not make you an artist.
If you have a Synclavier that does not mean you can play at a concert. ;)

I have used all of those including CS5. If you really NEED it definitely purchase/upgrade. ;)

Id like to be better with Photoshop as well.. I found the program sorta overwhelming though, not really being savvy with design, etc. I don't know what 99% of the options are for.

I have the drive to do this, but not as a profession, and I really don't have that talent :(

At least not developed...

Uhh . . . to do something like that, you'd first need Maya or 3Ds Max (or Blender) and do touch-ups on Photoshop (or GIMP).

And really, you should have a prerequisite skillset - f'irnstance it'd be a lot easier a transition if you could draw that by hand (AKA able to visualize it) and then go digital w/ it.

You don't need photoshop to do that. Awesome people can do it with a brush and some paint.
